As I mentioned in my last post my Twilight Quilters group just had an exchange. The exchange buddy I drew was Wanda. I was very excited to get Wanda because 1) she's one of the two girls that lives within easy driving distance from me and I've gotten together with her a few times and 2) she is the sweetest person I've ever met. We affectionately call her Mama Wanda because she is such a mothering, caring person. (actually she is now a Grandma of one little boy and another grandbaby on the way) She is always thoughtfully sending us little goodies in the mail, even when we aren't having one of our exchanges. She has sent Twilighty candy several times and for this Valentine's Day she sent each of us The Immortal Love mat stack by Die Cuts with a View. How sweet was that?! I had so much fun making those Twilight cards with that paper!
I saw this cute pattern for a bright and cheery four pocket hanging organizer in the January Quilters World. Well, I happened to have purchased some fabulous polka dot fabric in yummy sorbet colors a couple months ago that is similar to a couple of the fabrics in the article. Wanda has been working on getting her sewing studio all spruced up this past year and I thought a sweet, cheery hanging organizer would come in handy for some quilting tools!
So I set to work. Well the work was slow going cuz a) I'm slow; b) I was sick; and c) I do not like the instructions for most projects that are not quilts. They aren't intuitive to me and I haven't sewn many items that aren't quilts. Anyway, I text her that I was REALLY late. Of course being sweetness itself, she said no problem. I sewed my little heart out and here it is:
I can't resist polka dots and those luscious, cheerful sorbet colors! The pockets are from the It's a Hoot by MoMo for Moda Fabrics line I bought at my LQS. The background fabric is from Kiss The Cook by David Textiles. That and the binding - that I accidentally cut the selvage from :( - came from Joann's. Wanda likes cherries and some of the dots in the background fabric have cherries in them. Of course, we Twilighters love all things apples, and that fabric has those too! Speaking of apples, I also got an apple note pad. And knowing she likes gingerbread men, I sent her some coordinating gingerbread fabrics and I included my recipe for gingerbread. Rounding up the goodies was a book with purse patterns. (course I don't remember the title) She told me she's already picked one out to make for one of her daughters! Makes me feel good that she's already getting good use out of her present. :)
Her hanging organizer makes another February finish. (I have a couple more finishes for Jan and Feb I still need to catch up on)
As an aside, looking up that Kiss the Cook fabric I stumbled upon the Fabricworm website. Their tagline is "fresh, modern fabric". OMG, TONS of yummy scrapbook-paper looking fabric!!! Including more of those It's a Hoot Eggs (dots). I'm in trouble! My wallet is scared!
